Among Kato Tomomi Sensei's helmets, the 1/2 is one size larger than the 1/3.
This elegant May doll's 1/2 helmet is one size larger than the 1/3 helmet, and the bowl is about 12 cm in diameter.

The helmet is made by layering many layers of washi paper and then applying lacquer to it to give it strength. This type of helmet requires careful and slow bending of the fukiage (ear part) with heat. It is not flashy, but it is a faithful reproduction of the real thing.

The back of the helmet is flat like a hat, and the fukigaeshi and brow guard have the same design, giving the helmet a sense of unity. It is carefully stitched together by hand.
It is said that the hole in the helmet bowl was made to allow the topknot to be exposed.
The tsunomoto (corner plate) for attaching the front plate is also luxuriously made. It has such a uniform finish that it is hard to believe it was made by hand.
A front plate is an ornament attached to a helmet, and its subdued gold color gives it a calm appearance.
