Making a book using carefully selected washi paper kozane! May doll: Minamoto no Yoshiie (navy blue) helmet, flat display, folk art style
This is a carefully crafted May doll that is a faithful hand-crafted replica of the helmet of Minamoto no Yoshiie, who is said to be the ancestor of the Seiwa Genji clan.
Minamoto no Yoshiie was the great-great-grandfather of Minamoto no Yoritomo and Yoshitsune, who are famous for founding the Kamakura shogunate.
Not only was he brave, but even while he was busy fighting every day, he never forgot his compassion, and he looked after his servants, many of whom were prepared to sacrifice their lives in gratitude for his kindness.
His popularity saved Yoshiie wherever he went and led to the later development of the Minamoto clan.
This helmet was made by Tomomi Kato, a craftsman who paid close attention to detail. The sides of the helmet, the joints between each part, and even the stitching all reproduce the techniques of the time.
The back of the helmet is not visible when it is normally displayed, but it has been made with great attention to detail.
Even small children today will soon want to pick up a helmet and try wearing it.
And when you feel the weight and the impact of the artisan's handiwork, the day will come when your heart will be warmed by the knowledge that you were given something so wonderful when you were born.
In that sense, May dolls could be said to be a "gift with a time lag."
These May dolls are a part of an unbroken Japanese tradition, and are filled with wishes for and to protect the future of children.
Place the bow on the left side and the sword on the right side.
Bows and swords are said to "keep evil spirits and demons away," and are known as "hama-ma," or talismans, and are sold at shrines as talismans.
Swords are also displayed to protect against demons who dislike shiny things.
Bows and swords were not used for fighting, and it was believed that gods resided in long bows.
Since it is not for fighting, the sheath is placed on top and the handle is placed on the bottom. Displaying the bow and sword on both sides shows that the retainers are guarding the general's armor by his side.
Folding screen: 55cm high. The material of this folding screen and display stand is natural, so you can feel the warmth of wood. It is colored in a calm brown design, so it will look stylish when displayed in the living room.
It is made with designs and materials that are rare in the industry. Furthermore, the patterns are not flashy and the gold leaf processing is very elegant. Each folding screen is finished by hand.
The gold leaf is a porogram process, so it emits various colors such as green, blue, and red. On a thin, light beige tsumugi cloth, there is an elegant gold pattern of "Waves and Pine Trees."
When you look at the picture on the folding screen from different angles, various sparkling colors appear and disappear.
