May doll by Tomomi Kato, replica of Minamoto no Yoshitsune from Oyamazumi Shrine, 1/4 scale donated armor, copper round armor

This is the National Treasure, a donated armor of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, with a beautiful purple gradation, designed by Kato Tomomi, the first Edo armor maker.

There are 18 pieces of armor designated as national treasures in Japan that are Important Cultural Properties.

The "Minamoto no Yoshitsune" statue dedicated to Oyamazumi Shrine in the Seto Inland Sea is the only copper round armor.
Domaru Yoroi was a revolutionary armor that made it easier to walk while wearing large armor designed for horseback riding.

This unique copper round armor is a precious armor decoration made by Tomomi Kato using tanned deerskin and lacquer and shoe lacquer materials as a doll ornament for the festival.

Learn about history! What kind of person was Minamoto no Yoshitsune?

During the so-called "Genpei period," numerous battles were fought between the Taira and Minamoto clans on the Seto Inland Sea side of present-day Hyogo and Okayama prefectures.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune won the Battle of Ichinotani with a surprising tactic called "Yoshitsune's Reverse Attack."

This area faces the Seto Inland Sea and has little plains, with mountains directly to the north.

The Taira clan built their camp in the plains with the mountains behind them.

The Taira forces were preparing to fight from the east, west, or sea, when the Minamoto forces rode horseback down the slope behind the mountain to the north of where the Taira were camp, and attacked from a direction the Taira had never anticipated. The Taira camp fell into chaos and collapsed, and they were forced to flee by boat.

This battle marked the turning of the tide of the war in favor of the Minamoto clan, as seen in Yoshitsune's defeat at the Battle of Ichinotani.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune was a man with the ability to use his ingenuity to execute tactics that would take his opponents by surprise.

Tomomi Kato is the first Japanese traditional armor craftsman.

A characteristic of Kato Tomomi's work is his faithful reproduction of armor making from the Genpei era, Muromachi and Kamakura periods.

The black kozane part is made by hand using a Japanese paper-based material and a lacquer coating process.
It is applied more than 10 times and then finished with a cashew paint to firmly harden it.

They incorporate a technique called "tsurubashiri," which uses tanned deer leather to make the bowstring glide smoothly, to create dolls for the May festival.

『Bow and Sword』

The bow and sword are not used for fighting, but are displayed together with the helmet as a talisman to ward off evil spirits.
It was believed that gods resided in long bows.

Displaying a bow and a sword on both sides means
The role of the retainers is to stand by the general's side and protect the armor of the general.

Although it is a small sword, it is the most luxurious wooden sword in the industry.
The brown sheath is not made of plastic, but is an authentic product made of wood.

The finish is created using a topcoat technique called "nashiji-nuri," in which gold powder is mixed and applied.

Fletching is the feathers that are attached to an arrow.
It is believed that gods reside in long bows and they are used to ward off evil.
The tsuba also contained the samurai's hopes for victory in battle and prosperity for their family.

The sword was considered the perfect tool for warding off evil spirits.
The sheath is placed on top and the handle that is held in the hand is placed on the bottom.
This is the sword your grown-up child will want to play with the most. It can actually be drawn.

"Pedestal Screen"

The height of the screen is 54 cm.
The total length is 72 cm.
The pattern is of pine trees and waves in an elegant gold color on a pale beige tsumugi cloth.
I chose a simple design because I wanted the design to give a sense of elegance and style.

If you look closely at the picture from different angles, you will see a variety of sparkling colors appearing in and out of sight.
The reason for this is that a holographic process, which produces seven colors, is applied before the gold leaf is applied.

I would like to display it for Tango no Sekku for a long time, without it fading and looking stylish.
This elegant folding screen and stand is recommended for such people.
